Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport Metro Line Opened with TÜBİTAK RUTE's Signalling Systems

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Istanbul Airport Metro Kağıthane-Gayrettepe Phase, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, "One of the most important, sensitive and difficult issues in rail system projects is the signalling system, which we can call the brain of the line. Thanks to the ASELSAN-TÜBİTAK cooperation, we are no longer dependent on others in these areas. TÜBİTAK developed the Wayside Train Control System, which is the smart signalling systems to be deployed at the stations. We are doing it ourselves. There is no import from abroad."

"The Share of Domestic and National Technology in Every Project Will Increase"

"Again, 60 driverless metro vehicles to be used on this line are being produced in the factory in Ankara Sincan Organized Industrial Zone. We are proud to realize all the processes of the Gayrettepe-Havalimanı metro line, from the first survey project to its implementation, with our own domestic engineering and design know-how." President Erdoğan said, "God willing, from now on, we will focus on increasing the share of domestic-national technologies in every project we realize, regardless of the field. We will work with determination until we reach the goal of fully independent Türkiye in all matters related to technology, especially in the defence industry."

Minister Kacır ''This is the National Technology Move''

Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır also made a statement on social media and said, "I congratulate the engineers, technicians and the entire team at ASELSAN and TÜBİTAK who developed the signalling system on the inaugurated metro line locally and nationally and implemented it at international standards." He used the expressions.  In his statement, Kacır said, "This is the national technology move.

Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, President of TÜBİTAK, who attended the ceremony, gave the message "We are working for a fully independent Türkiye in the field of transportation with the domestic and national technologies we have developed!".

"As TÜBİTAK, we have implemented the signalling system of the Istanbul/Gayrettepe-Kağıthane metro line, which was inaugurated by our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, in partnership with Aselsan! " Mandal said, "As a result of the studies carried out in order to increase the utilization rate of railway lines and to increase the safety of train traffic, railway signalling systems, which could only be supplied from abroad for many years, were developed and put into service within the scope of "DOMESTIC SIGNAL" signalling projects as TÜBİTAK as a result of the studies carried out in order to put an end to foreign dependence in this field!"

Mandal visited the Istanbul Airport Metro Line Traffic Control Centre and examined the work carried out on site and noted that they witnessed the successful work of the team closely.

Prof. Dr. Mandal said, "The fact that the experience and success in the mainline signalling projects carried out since 2009 has also been achieved in the metro area is an important indicator of TÜBİTAK RUTE's competence in developing safety critical systems in European Standards. With TÜBİTAK RUTE's increasing knowledge and experience in rail transportation technologies, we will continue to develop our country's rail transportation systems in a domestic and national way, and we will continue to progress without pause!"

Mandal said, "I would like to congratulate all our employees, especially our engineers who develop domestic and national solutions for the needs of our country, and all our employees who work on the path of the National Technology Move!"

Istanbul Airport-Taksim to Istanbul Airport will be 41 minutes.

With the new line, travel times will be 30 minutes for Gayrettepe-Istanbul Airport, 38 minutes for Göktürk-Mahmutbey, 45 minutes for Tekstilkent-Istanbul Airport, 41 minutes for Taksim-Istanbul Airport, 26 minutes for Taksim-Göktürk and 35 minutes for 4. Levent-Istanbul Airport.

TÜBİTAK RUTE Signature in Signalling Systems of the Line

Signalling systems, which ensure the safe management of railway train traffic, increase safety by preventing collisions and derailments. In Türkiye, efforts for the domestic production of these systems, which were supplied from abroad for many years, continue unabated. Within the scope of the "Domestic Signal" projects of TÜBİTAK RUTE, which continues its R&D activities uninterruptedly with the slogan "Leading the Transformation of Mobility", critical steps are being taken in the development and localization of mainline and metro signalling systems.

While the indigenous systems developed for main line signalling have been commissioned in cooperation with TCDD, indigenous metro signalling systems developed and certified in cooperation with TÜBİTAK RUTE and Aselsan for metro lines have started to be actively used.

The Kağıthane - Istanbul Airport section of the Gayrettepe - Istanbul New Airport metro line is being operated successfully by actively using the Indigenous Signalling-CBTC WSATC system.

With the extension of the line to Halkalı, the metro line, consisting of a total of 696 km and 16 stations, will be signalized to allow a speed of 120 km.
