Record applications for TÜBİTAK's Science Talks!

Minister of Industry and Technology Kacır announced that there was a great increase in Science Talks compared to the previous period. Emphasizing that "We will hold 5,121 interviews with hundreds of thousands of children until May 31," Kacır said, "5,121 schools or institutions from 81 provinces and 661 districts applied to host, a record increase of 536 percent compared to the previous period. Compared to the previous period, including being a speaker "2903 scientists from 189 universities will hold science talks, a record increase of 420 percent," he said.

Minister Kacır also shared information about the process: “After the matching processes are completed, considering the 66 topics selected from the Rules Booklet during the application process, the parties will hold interviews on the dates determined within the scope of the Rules Booklet announced under the coordination of TÜBİTAK. "This period, between 2 October 2023 and 31 May 2024, our 2903 Scientists will hold 5,121 Science Talks in 81 provinces."

4006-TÜBİTAK Science Fairs Support Program 10th Term application results have been announced

Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır announced the results of the 4006-TÜBİTAK Science Fairs Support Program 10th Term applications. Kacır said, “51,097 projects prepared by thousands of middle school and high school students from 3,349 schools were entitled to receive support. This year, 51,097 projects will be prepared and exhibited at 3,349 science fairs in 613 districts of 81 provinces by the end of the academic year".

Minister Kacır pointed out the important innovations made in the 10th call period of the program, that it was divided in two separate calls as 4006-A and 4006-B for the first time and said “with the addition of 23 new thematic topics to the science fair call texts in line with the priority areas in science, technology and innovation ecosystem this term; a total of 133,328 project applications were made by 9,111 schools across 791 districts of 81 provinces and within the scope of 66 thematic topics and 12 main areas".

Minister Kacır highlighted a significant development this year, noting that all science fair project applications were subjected to similarity check for the first time, aimed at enhancing project quality. He stated, "After the similarity check process, 6,553 schools/95,535 projects were qualified to proceed to the evaluation stage and were evaluated by 551 academicians and educators who are experts in their fields.

Minister Kacır said “We congratulate our young scientists and hope that they will make great contributions to our country and all humanity with their scientific projects, both today and in the future. Once again, we would like to thank all our teachers and students who contributed to the application process. • 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program and 2209-B University Students Industry Research Projects Support Program

Announcing the results of the 2023 First Call of the University Students Research Projects Support programs, Kacır announced that they supported 5,165 university students with the 2209 A program and 270 university students with the 2209 B Program. Minister Kacır said, “In this way, we continue to support thousands of students studying at associate and undergraduate degrees every year. In the 2023 1st Call of the 2209-A University Students Research Projects Support Program, for which we received 9334 project applications from 188 universities, the results of which we announced today, we supported 5 thousand 165 students from 181 universities with 31 million lira, with a support rate as high as 55%.

"With our 2209-B program, 3,333 university students from 149 different universities applied in the last 3 years with their industry-oriented projects, and we were happy to direct our young people to science and technology-based research by providing support at a high rate of 60%." he said.

• 2214-A International Doctoral Research Scholarship Program

“With the 2214-A International Doctoral Research Scholarship Program, PhD students carry out their thesis studies abroad for up to 12 months.” Kacır said and noted that the 2023 second term call of the program has been opened for applications.

Minister Kacır said, “We increased the scholarship support provided within the scope of the program from 1500 Euros/1800 Dollars to 1700 Euros/1900 Dollars. Again, we expanded the flight ticket support provided within the scope of the program for the scholarship holder and his/her spouse to be provided for three people, including the scholar. Of the 401 applications made to the 1st Call of the program in 2023, 370 were taken into scientific evaluation; "We supported 195 doctoral students from 55 different universities to conduct research in 43 different countries, 19 of which were in Health Sciences, 128 in Social and Human Sciences, 22 in Technical Sciences, 20 in Basic Sciences, and 6 in Agricultural Sciences," he said.

• 2219 International Postdoctoral Programs Research Scholarship Program

Minister Kacır said, "With the 2219 International Postdoctoral Research Scholarship Program, researchers who have a doctoral degree or a specialization degree in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy and veterinary medicine, or a proficiency degree in art, who will conduct research abroad, are supported for up to 12 months." he reminded. Stating that 414 researchers were supported to conduct research in 37 different countries out of 857 applications made for the first term of 2023, Kacır announced that the program's second term call was opened for applications today.

Minister Kacır said, “We have updated the monthly scholarship amount to a maximum of 2,350 Euros for European countries and a maximum of 2,600 US dollars for other countries. Again, we expanded the flight ticket support provided within the scope of the program for the scholarship holder and his/her spouse to be provided for three people, including the scholar. Of the 857 applications made to the 2023 first term call of the program, 845 were taken into scientific evaluation and 414 people were entitled to receive a scholarship. • 2218 National Postdoctoral Research Scholarship Program

Reminding that 78 of the 96 applications made to the 2218 National Postdoctoral Research Scholarship Program 1st Call for 2023 were supported, Kacır said, "We are opening the 2023 2nd call of the program to applications by further expanding our scope with the updates made in the program." He made a statement.

Minister Kacır said, “While we provided only research scholarship support within the scope of the program in 2018, we expanded the scope of the program in 2020 and included projects in addition to research scholarships. We have included research support in order to cover the necessary consumables, machinery/equipment, service procurement and travel expenses. In addition, we have included support for participation in national and international scientific events within the scope of the program to encourage our researchers to disseminate the information they produce.” said.

Stating that 78 of the 96 applications made to the 1st Call of the 2218 program for 2023 were supported, Kacır emphasized that the support rate was 81.25 percent. Minister Kacır said, “Of the 78 applications we supported; "12 of them are in the field of Health Sciences, 8 of them are in the field of Social Sciences, 5 of them are in the field of Agricultural Sciences, 23 of them are in the field of Technical Sciences and 30 of them are in the field of Basic Sciences." he said.

• 2247-C Intern Researcher Scholarship Program (STAR)

Minister Kacır said, “We are now making a new call for the STAR program, which we have experienced makes a great contribution to undergraduate students' gaining research experience. With the STAR Program 2023 call, we aim to include at least 1500 undergraduate students in research projects this year. This In line with the target, we will receive applications for the STAR program in 3 stages. In the first stage, we will receive requests from our project managers for scholars who will take part in their projects. "In the second stage, we will receive the applications of our undergraduate students for the projects within the scope of these demands, and in the final stage, we will ensure that the project managers determine the scholarship recipients among these applications." he said.

• 2244 Industrial PhD Program

The aim of the Industrial Doctorate Program is; Kacır emphasized that the aim is to train the qualified human resources needed to compete with knowledge superiority in industrial organizations through university-industry cooperation and to encourage the employment of doctoral researchers in the industry. With this program, 317 people have been employed so far. He noted that 1194 doctoral students were entitled to be supported for the training of the University-Industry Cooperation Project and 520 scholars actively served in the current projects.

• Support Program for 2221 Guest or Sabbatical Scientists

Minister Kacır said, “With the 2221 Guest or Sabbatical Scientist Support Program, 98 of the 161 researchers invited to our country with the first three calls opened in 2023 were supported. 35 "The scientific evaluation process of the application continues."

"We are increasing the monthly scholarship amount paid to the 2232 A Leading Researchers Program project manager from 46,310 TL to 90 thousand TL, and the monthly scholarship amount paid to the 2232 B International Young Researchers Program project manager from 36,385 TL to 70 thousand TL," he said. “Within the scope of these programs, we have brought 194 senior researchers from 21 different countries to our country in the fields of technical sciences, life and agricultural sciences, basic sciences, social and human sciences and health sciences.” said.
