Bilim ve Teknik (Science and Technology)

This is a monthly popular science magazine published by TUBITAK to inform a dedicated readership about the basics of science as well as the latest developments in scientific research and cutting-edge technology. It is the acknowledged leader in its class, boasting an unbroken record of publication spanning 40 years. Its well-earned reputation as the chief source of  scientific information for the public and a useful educational tool for the students has put Bilim ve Teknik among Turkey's top-selling magazines with sales exceeding 40.000.

The magazine is produced by editors and a staff well-versed in science writing and guided by a board chaired by the Vice-TUBITAK President for Science in Society and includes academics in basic and social sciences.

Beside the 120-page magazine, each issue contains a bonus 16-to-24 page special dossier -- titled Yeni Ufuklara (To New Horizons)’ since 2001, providing extensive information, historical background and future outlook on a wide range of scientific subjects of popular interest.

Bilim ve Teknik also runs a very popular Web page (www.biltek.tubitak.gov.tr) which, along with a rich sample of  science and technology news, offers richly illustrated educational packages, special sections catering to hobbies and other features designed to boost creativity. Among the widely-appreciated features are the magazine's complete archive covering all past issues as well as a very popular Q&A data bank which has topped 5000 entries. Steadily drawing new fans, the Web page has logged about 1 million visits and nearly 63 million hits in March 2007.

Beside the hard-copy, the magazine has launched an electronic version in July 2004 to conform to the demands of contemporary publishing and to reach the large Turkish population living abroad. Subscription to the e-magazine allows the readers to gain access to the magazine’s archive.

Bilim Çocuk (Science for Children)

A particularly impressive success story for TUBITAK’s reach to public is Bilim Çocuk. Launched on Jan 15, 1998 it is addressed to primary school children of 7-12 age group.

Advised by a board made up of education specialists and produced by imaginative editors and staff, Bilim Çocuk has rapidly become a reference source material for school children and a guide for teachers. The sales, constantly on the rise, is approaching an average 55.000.

Each 64-page copy contains a very popular bonus for children in the form of a set of  cards containing basic information on a specific subject, which the children learn from and devise their own games to play with. The magazine also incorporates quiz and puzzle pages.

Recently it has added a special guide section, aligned with the school curricula, to help teachers make classes more interesting and productive.

Aiming to rear new generations fit for the new millennium with critical minds, unafraid to ask, eager to investigate and learn, Bilim Çocuk also stands out as Turkey’s only scientific magazine tailored specifically for children. Bilim Çocuk also runs a colourful and informative Web page monitored closely by childrens and parents alike.

Merakli Minik (Curious Puppy)

The chief character (an illustrated home pet) and its set of  knowledgable friends (a magpie, a hedgehog and two human role models provide a delightful entry to science for the pre-school children of ages 3-6.

Being the first of its kind in Turkey, the magazine debuted in January 2007, after careful and extensive research and workshops which brought together TUBITAK management, science writers and pre-school education specialists from universities and kindergarten teachers.

Containing small stories speckled with information cut to the size of the target age group and richly illustrated by artists carefully selected from among a crowd of  applicants, the 24-page magazine has received a warm embrace by pre-school children and enthusiastic parents.
