TÜBİTAK MARMARA RESEARCH CENTRE (MAM)
The Marmara Research Centre (MAM), one of TÜBİTAK’s research and development units, was established in 1972. Its vision is "to be a world renowned science and technology centre in the field of applied research" and its mission is "to contribute to the development of Turkey’s competitive strength, using science and technology". MAM achieves this mission through close cooperation with Turkish industry. MAM uses a customer oriented and quality approach in its projects and industrial support activities. As a result, all the institutes under the authority of MAM have received the ISO 9001:2000 Quality Management Systems Certificate and ISO 140001:2004. Environmental Management System Certificate. MAM’s laboratories were accredited according to the Experiment and Calibration Proficiency by DAR/DAP in 2002. MAM received the National Quality Incentive Award in 2003.
MAM consists of units within TÜBİTAK’s headquarters and seven institutes. The strategic working groups constitute the foundation of the fields of activity of these institutes.
Information Technologies Institute (ETE):
Its mission is to take our country’s priorities into consideration in the fields of information technology by performing applied research of international standard and developing unique and strategic technologies. ETE is conducting research through four strategic working groups: Information and Networking Technologies, Sensory Technologies, Modelling and Simulation Technologies, and Platform Management Technologies. The main areas
of research are decision support systems, networking and protocol technologies, sensory systems, micro-sensory networks, embedded systems, computational intelligence techniques, distributed architecture simulation, engineering simulation, operational level simulation, and air-sea-land platforms management technologies.Energy Institute (EE): Through its "Advanced Energy Technologies", "Fuel Technologies"," Vehicle Technologies", and "Power Electronics Technologies" strategic working groups, the Energy Institute carries out applied research projects in research fields such as fuel cells, hydrogen, combustion, gasification and gas cleaning, and energy storage.
Food Institute (GE):
The mission of the Food Institute is to carry out R&D studies for developing food technology, enhancing competitive power, providing food and consumer safety, and preventing nutrition problems. The institute has been conducting R&D, testing/analysis, education and consultation studies in the fields of food science and technology to contribute to technical development in the food industry.The institute carries out interdisciplinary studies in the field of food science and technology. All the functions of the institute are performed by "Food Processing Technologies and Nutrition "and "Food Microbiology and Fermentation Technologies" strategic working groups.
Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Institute (GMBE):
GMBE aims to produce original information and develop advanced technologies in the field of genetic engineering and biotechnology by following global developments. GMBE operates through four strategic working groups, namely animal, medical, enzyme and microbial, and plant biotechnologies.
The Animal Biotechnology strategic working group has been conducting studies with the objective of controlling
reproduction of animals, performing research on the molecular mechanisms of human and animal diseases, or developing strategies for treatment. The studies regarding health and treatment of human diseases form the groundwork of the strategic working group. Studies on micro-organisms that produce industrial enzymes from different ecosystems are carried out by the Enzyme and Microbial Biotechnology strategic working group. The Plant Biotechnology strategic working group performs research on molecular indicators in the selection of plant genotypes, the use of those in plant improvement, and molecular and phylogenetic analysis of proteins that play an important role in the plant intracellular trafficking of proteins.
Chemistry and Environment Institute (KÇE):
KÇE’s purpose is to develop chemical and environmental technologies in accordance with the national objectives of sustainable development and in parallel with global advances. The institute consists of two related strategic working groups: Chemistry Technology (where projects related to boron, other minerals and polymer technologies are conducted) and Environmental Technology (where projects related to water, wastewater management, marine, lake pollution, ecotoxiology and air quality management are conducted).
Institute of Materials (ME):
ME carries out R&D projects and activities in the field of materials science and technologies in Turkey, in cooperation with universities, and national and international research establishments, in addition to public and private sector establishments. ME operates through three strategic working groups: "Ceramic, Coating, Electromagnetic-Electronic Materials, Sensor and Metal Technologies", "Aluminium,Casting,Nanotechnology-Composite and NDT and Acoustics" and "Technological Support". The main areas of research are forming techniques, industrial solid waste management, glass ceramics, archaeological ceramics, traditional ceramics, porous ceramics, evaluation of raw materials, and ceramic filters.
Earth and Marine Sciences Institute (YDBE):
YDBE is a research and technology centre conducting strategic research in the areas of natural resources and natural disasters of geological origin using advanced technology based on measurements, monitoring and computer-aided modelling. The institute plays a pioneering role especially for governmental organisations and municipalities via multi-disciplinary scientific research conducted in accordance with international standards. The vision of EMSI is to be a Research and Technology Development Centre in earth and marine sciences doing research using advanced technology, measurements, observations and computer-aided modelling. The institute operates through three main strategic working groups concerned with earthquake, geophysical, and geological and geochemical processes.
TÜBİTAK NATIONAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE OF ELECTRONICS AND CRYPTOLOGY (UEKAE)
Established in Ankara in 1968 as the Electronic Research Unit, UEKAE aims to produce and implement scientific and technological solutions with its highly qualified staff and infrastructure recognised at international level in order to ensure and sustain Turkey’s technological independence, and to increase the country’s competitive power. UEKAE achieves this mission in the following fields of activity: information security, communication technologies, advanced electronics (electronic warfare), design and production of integrated circuits, optoelectronics, testing and certification, software, and consultancy and training.
UEKAE works on joint projects together with private sector companies and government authorities through its TEMPEST Test Centre, Acoustics Test Centre, Hardware-Software Common Criteria Test Centre, and Cryptographic Algorithm Design and Test Centre, and its Product Development, Electronic Warfare, Microelectronics and Optoelectronics departments.
UEKAE’s mission is to contribute to Turkey’s technological independence by conducting research in information security and advanced electronics using accredited test platforms and laboratories and providing on demand support.The institute employs modern management systems, and as a result of these studies it has received ISO 9001-2000,AQAP-110, AQAP-130, and AQAP-150, and has been accredited by the EMI/EMC Testing Centre and Turkish Accreditation Institution (TÜRKAK).

TÜBİTAK DEFENCE INDUSTRIES RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE (SAGE)
Established in 1972, the mission of SAGE is "to provide high-value-added, original products and services that are
competitive in the international market through R&D by assuming the responsibility for challenging and ambitious
tasks in the defence industry in order to be able to meet Turkey’s requirements on the basis of know-how, technology and national resources, and to reduce foreign dependency." To achieve this mission, SAGE carries out the following activities:
- To execute development projects, to carry out technology development activities, to build know-how
accumulation, infrastructure and specialised manpower in connection with guided and unguided ammunition systems/sub-systems,
- To produce strategic systems and sub-systems,
- To develop software in its area of specialisation (fire command control, flight simulation etc.)
- To provide inspection and measurement services,
- To provide consulting services.

TÜBİTAK SPACE TECHNOLOGIES RESEARCH INSTITUTE (UZAY)
Established in 1985, the mission of UZAY is "to produce knowledge and technology for changing and developing the technology base of the country’s industry in the fields of space technologies, information technologies and electronic research, to guide the sector and to raise awareness of the public in its fields of activity". - Space technologies: satellite systems, satellite sub-systems, satellite ground station sub-systems,

- Electronics: integrated circuit design, communication systems, electronic system design, electro-optical
task loads,

TÜBİTAK NATIONAL METROLOGY INSTITUTE (UME)
Established in 1992, the mission of UME is "to ensure measurement uniformity and reliability with the aim of contributing towards improving the quality of life and the competitive power of our country, and to form, develop, maintain and disseminate reference measurement standards and techniques recognised internationally." UME achieves this mission through the following activities:
- To establish national measurement standards and to ensure that such standards are monitored internationally,
- To establish a National Metrology System,
- To offer calibration, training, and consulting services at national and international level,
- To carry out R&D at international level in the fields of measurement techniques, calibration methods, and basic metrology.
- To ensure the suitability of the laboratories for the Turkish Calibration Service,
- To represent Turkey at an international level in the field of metrology.

TÜBİTAK RESEARCH INSTITUTE FOR BASIC SCIENCES (TBAE)
The mission of TBAE is "to produce knowledge through original studies recognised and given importance by the
national and international scientific community in basic sciences, particularly in theoretical physics and mathematics, with the participation and cooperation of all stakeholders, in line with common principles, goals,
targets and national priorities, and to support, assist and mediate the performing of such studies." This mission is achieved through the following activities:

TURKISH INSTITUTE FOR INDUSTRIAL MANAGEMENT (TÜSSİDE)
Established in 1971, TÜSSİDE is a financially and administratively autonomous organisation managed jointly by TÜBİTAK and the Ministry of Education. The mission of TÜSSİDE is to "provide training, consultancy, research and publishing services to our customers by using knowledge and technology based approaches and effective methods supporting them in their continuous improvement towards gaining advanced management approaches and methods". Pursuant to its mission, TÜSSİDE is active in the following fields:

TÜBİTAK NATIONAL ACADEMIC NETWORK AND INFORMATION CENTRE (ULAKBİM)
Established in 1996, the mission of ULAKBİM is "to establish and operate information and documentation networks for research and training purposes among universities and research institutions, to ensure the connection of such networks to other networks at home and abroad, to provide information technology support so as to encourage production of information, and to offer academic information and document services that will assist in the production of scientific knowledge in our country over the networks and/or through traditional ways, and to develop information products that will reflect the nation’s accumulation of learning." ULAKBİM executes this mission through the following activities:
- Services provided through the National Academic Network (ULAKNET),
- Services for providing information and documents,
- Creating and developing databases in Turkish,
- Providing subject / citation scanning services,
- Building a collection of electronic periodicals,
- Providing access to databases under the National Academic Site License (UASL),

TÜBİTAK NATIONAL OBSERVATORY (TUG)
TÜBİTAK National Observatory (TUG) was established in 1997 on Mount Bakırlıtepe, in the West Taurus
Mountains, at a height of about 2500 m. The mission of TUG is "to bring the telescope and other equipment of the observatory up to international level, to encourage and guide contemporary research related to astronomy and space sciences to be carried out there, and to cooperate with the national and international establishments and organisations operating in this field, to provide observation and research facilities of international standard as well as support to the contemporary, current and priority research on astronomy and space sciences carried out at our universities." The following activities are carried out at TUG in line with this mission:
- To provide access to telescopes for the observational astronomy and astrophysical research performed by universities and research institutes,
- To organise activities with the aim of bringing the telescope and other equipment up to international level,
- To encourage and guide research on astronomy and space sciences, and to establish relationship networks,
- To provide support for training and publishing, and to organise festivals.

TÜBİTAK ANKARA TEST AND ANALYSIS LABORATORY (ATAL)
Established in 1995, the mission of ATAL is to carry out highly reliable and repeatable testing/analysis,
consultation, education and R&D, to create the necessary infrastructure for the attainment of knowledge, experience, equipment and hardware, and to be a pioneer in this field.
The functions of ATAL include analytical services, R&D studies concerning analysis (development of methods and/or validation of methods), academic consultation and educational services, conference/workshop arrangements, and contributions to the training of researchers.

TÜBİTAK BURSA TEST AND ANALYSIS LABORATORY (BUTAL)
Established in 1972, the mission of BUTAL is to provide testing and analytical services using science and technology-oriented methods, education, observation and R&D services to enhance and sustain Turkey’s competitive strength.
BUTAL carries out R&D, educational activities, observation, evaluation, and testing and analytical services in the textile, leather, food, ceramics, drinking and process water, wastewater, coal, petroleum products, soil, metallurgy and automotive fields for industry, public and private sector R&D institutes and institutions, service sector, and scientists. BUTAL includes the Material and Textile Laboratory, Chemistry and Environment Laboratory, and Food and Agricultural Chemistry Laboratory.
