The Entrepreneurial and Innovative University Index that has been prepared in the leadership of TUBITAK, is announced by Mr. Nihat ERGÜN, Minister of Science, Industry and Technology. Sabancı University, METU and Bilkent University took the first three rows among the 50 universities in the list.
In a press conference organized at the meeting hall of Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Minister ERGÜN briefed the goal and the importance of the The Entrepreneurial and Innovative University Index and that it has been prepared for the first time in Turkey.
Prof. Dr. Yücel ALTUNBAŞAK, the President of TUBITAK has also attended the press conference where Minister ERGÜN explained that the universities having less than 50 faculty members have not been included in the index prepared for promoting the entrepreneurial and innovative activities in universities. In this regard, the results of index covered 126 universities in overall of 168.
Minister ERGÜN: The ranking will be renewed and announced each year.
Minister ERGÜN indicated that the index is composed of 5 dimensions as; scientific and technological research competence, intellectual property pool, cooperation and interaction, enterpreneurship and innovation culture and economic contribution and commercialization; which covers 23 indicators overall.
This index is prepared for the first time in Turkey and will be renewed and announced each year. However, beginning from the next year, this ranking will be announced to public before the university eliminations are made. This ranking does not have an educational theme but ultimately aims to promote entrepreneurial and innovative activities in the universities according to their third mission; beside education and research.
The index study has been initiated by TUBITAK and The Council of Higher Education, Turkish Statistical Institute, Ministry of Science, Industry and Technology, Ministry of Development, Ministry of Finance, Turkish Patent Institute, Technology Development Foundation of Turkey, Turkish Academy of Sciences and Small and Medium Enterprises Development Organization have also contributed.
