EUREKA Chairmanship Handover Ceremony

Turkey is undertaking the chairmanship of EUREKA, the international cooperation platform supporting R&D projects for the development of market-focused and commercial products and processes in the short term, for the period July 2012-June 2013, under the coordinatorship of TÜBİTAK. Within this period, the R&D agenda of the 40-member EUREKA Program will be determined by the Turkish chairmanship.

The EUREKA Chairmanship Handover Ceremony was organized by former Hungarian Chair on 22 June 2012 in Budapest. Turkish Science, Industry and Technology Deputy Minister Prof. Davut KAVRANOĞLU, Turkish Ambassador of Hungary Mr. Kemal GÜR, TÜBİTAK President Consultant in charge of international cooperation Prof. Yunus ÇENGEL, and officials from TÜBİTAK International Cooperation Department and Turkish Research and Business Organisations (TURBO) had attended to the ceremony. On behalf of Turkey, Prof. KAVRANOĞLU took over the EUREKA Chairmanship from Hungarian National Economy Minister Prof. Zoltan CSEFALVAY.

In his speech during the ceremony, Prof. KAVRANOĞLU mentioned about the Turkish EUREKA Chairmanship priorities, and that it will open up opportunities for Turkish industry and SMEs regarding taking part in international R&D cooperation.

The Turkish EUREKA Chairmanship had been launched with the opening conference held on July 13, 2012 in the Istanbul Congress Center with the attendance of Mr. Nihat ERGÜN, Minister of Science, Industry and Technology and Prof. Yücel ALTUNBAŞAK, TÜBİTAK Chairman and Turkish firms in the EUREKA Program such as Arçelik, Turkcell and Vestel as well as high-level officials in charge of the program from EUREKA member states. The overall subject of the conference was “EUREKA as a Global Platform for Co-opetitive Innovation.”
