As part of a recently launched campaign, “With TÜBİTAK Publications, Science is Everywhere” which aims to promote scientific thinking within the society, TÜBİTAK is planning to establish sections in libraries and even whole libraries consisting of books and other printed materials from TÜBİTAK Popular Science Publications within public libraries located in towns small and large and in 593 Regional Boarding Primary and Secondary Schools throughout Turkey. In addition to existing publications, TÜBİTAK will continue to support these libraries with new publications as they become available.
As part of the campaign, TÜBİTAK will donate 172,000 books to the libraries of 593 Regional Boarding Primary and Secondary Schools, 270,000 books to 265,000 students of these schools, and 71,800 books to their teachers, the number of which is 13,268. Furthermore, 276,630 books will be donated to 1158 city, district, and township libraries. By the end of the campaign, which is so far only half way through, TÜBİTAK will have donated 448,630 books and established 1751 libraries composed of TÜBİTAK publications only. The number of books donated as part of the campaign is expected to reach 790,430 including the books donated to teachers and students.
Another aspect of the campaign is that these libraries will be donated 1.250.000 copies of TÜBİTAK’s popular science magazines: Meraklı Minik (Curious Puppy – for the age group of 3-6 years), Bilim Çocuk (Science for Children – for the age group of 6-14 years), and Bilim ve Teknik (Science and Technique – for the age group of 14+ years), TÜBİTAK promises to keep the libraries up-to-date with future TUBİTAK popular science publications. |
